Thigh lift

INTRODUCTION

What are the objectives of a thigh lift?

A thigh lift is a aesthetic surgery procedure on the inner surface of the thighs to tighten the skin using resection and lifting techniques, and to remove excess fat from the thighs using liposuction.

What are the principles of aesthetic surgery on the thighs?

  • Where there is excess fat only and no ptosis (sagging of the skin, as we often find with younger patients), liposuction of the inner surface of the thighs may suffice. Further information: thigh liposuction
  • When ptosis of the skin of the thighs is present (situation found most often following weight loss), it is necessary to perform a lift on the inner surface of the thighs to tighten up the skin. Therefore, a thigh lift may or may not be combined with lipoaspiration (liposuction) to reduce excess fat.

TECHNICAL PRINCIPLES

There are two techniques for performing a thigh lift.

THIGH LIFT WITH A "T-SHAPED" SCAR

Indications: this type of thigh lift is performed when there is a large amount of excess skin, usually following major weight loss.

Technique for thigh lift with a "T-shaped" scar:

  • Lipoaspiration (liposuction) of the thighs is performed to reduce excess fat.
  • The actual thigh lift is then performed to tighten the skin on the inner surface of the thighs.
  • There are two scars: the vertical branch of the "T" is a scar along the inner surface of the thighs, from the groin fold down to the knees. The horizontal "T" branch is a scar placed inside the groin fold

THIGH LIFT WITH TRANSVERSE SCAR

Indications: this type of thigh lift is performed when there is a minor to moderate amount of excess skin.

Procedure for thigh lift with transverse scar:

  • Lipoaspiration (liposuction) of the thighs is performed to reduce excess fat.
  • The actual thigh lift is then performed to tighten the skin on the inner surface of the thighs.
  • The scar is placed inside the groin fold.

POST-OPERATIVE EFFECTS

  • Moderate pain and discomfort when performing daily tasks
  • The result of the thigh lift is immediately visible
